Railway RRB NTPC 60-Day Study Plan

The Railway Recruitment Board Non-Technical Popular Categories (RRB NTPC) exam is a highly competitive national exam for posts such as Station Master, Goods Guard, Commercial Apprentice, and Clerks.

The exam focuses heavily on high-speed mental calculation, logical ability, and general awareness. Since the competition is fierce, a structured day-by-day plan is essential to cover the syllabus and gain an edge. This 60-day study plan is optimized to maximize your scores.

RRB NTPC CBT-1 Exam Pattern

The Computer Based Test (CBT-1) consists of 100 questions carrying 100 marks, to be completed in 90 minutes.

  • General Awareness: 40 Questions
  • Mathematics: 30 Questions
  • General Intelligence & Reasoning: 30 Questions
  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd of marks assigned to a question are deducted for every wrong answer.

Phase-Wise 60-Day Schedule

Phase 1: Days 1 to 25 – Core Concepts & Sectional Practice

Focus on clear understanding of mathematical chapters and key static GK areas.

  • Mathematics: Complete fundamental concepts of Percentage, Ratio, Average, Number System, Simplification, and HCF/LCM. Spend 2 hours daily.
  • Reasoning: Practice Analogy, Syllogism, Blood Relations, Coding-Decoding, and Direction Sense. Spend 1.5 hours daily.
  • General Awareness: Cover NCERT-based Physics, Chemistry, and Biology first. Science accounts for nearly 15-20 questions in General Awareness. Start reading Monthly Current Affairs. Spend 2 hours daily.

Phase 2: Days 26 to 45 – Advanced Practice & Speed Improvement

Improve your speed and transition to timed tests.

  • Mathematics: Tackle advanced chapters like Trigonometry, Geometry, Mensuration, and Data Interpretation. Practice 50 questions daily.
  • Reasoning: Solve complex seating arrangements, puzzle tests, and statement-conclusion problems.
  • General Awareness: Study Indian History (Modern Indian Freedom Struggle is high-yield), Indian Geography (Rivers, Dams, National Parks), and Constitution Articles.
  • Daily Activity: Take one sectional test of 30 questions each for Mathematics and Reasoning daily to monitor speed.

Phase 3: Days 46 to 60 – Full-Length Mock Tests & Revision

This phase decides your selection. Focus entirely on performance optimization.

  • Mock Tests: Take one full-length RRB NTPC mock test every morning. Simulating the exact 90-minute exam pressure is essential.
  • Analysis: Spend 2 hours analyzing the test. Note the questions you got wrong due to formula error or conceptual gap.
  • Revision: Revise the mistake notebook and formula sheets every evening. Read compilation files of current affairs of the past 12 months.

Strategy for Scoring 85+ in CBT-1

  • 1.Master General Science: Since railways ask conceptual and numerical science questions, do not skip Class 9 & 10 physics and chemistry formulas (like Ohm's law, mirrors, lenses, equations of motion).
  • 2.Speed in Reasoning: Aim to complete the 30 reasoning questions within 20 minutes so you have extra time for complex Math problems.
  • 3.Minimize Negative Marks: With a 1/3rd penalty, wild guessing is fatal. Only attempt General Awareness questions if you can narrow down to two options.
  • 4.Solve PYQs: Solve previous years' question papers from 2016 and 2021 online papers. The Railway Board repeats GK and Math questions with minor value changes.
